The Good
First off, this is built very well. It’s deceptively heavy and all of the parts that seem like they’d need to be metal are actually metal. The bearings on this are extremely smooth as well.
The Bad
I’m not a giant by any means (5″ 10″), but the diameter of the wheel is so small that you are essentially taking baby steps or shimmying. It’s an unnaturally small “step” and it feels like you need to focus more on getting it just right as opposed to zoning out and being otherwise productive, which is the allure of a product like this.
The Ugly
You need to be situated (height, lean angle, and distance) PERFECTLY for this to function at all. It’s impossible to get this to work using remotely good posture while I am attempting to work at my desk. It’s possible that it could be limitations of my chair or desk height, but this WILL be a problem for many people. Period. If you can’t get in a perfect groove with this, the wheels bang on the platform with every step you make, so it can get extremely annoying very quickly.
I am going to give this a more fair shake long term and revisit this review if needed, but these seem like issues that are unavoidable depending on the user and their setup. I am certain that it will be great for people of a certain height with a luckily-perfect chair and or desk, but I do not appear to be one of those people.

Reviewing MODVEL Seated Under Desk Elliptical Machine, I have an under-desk elliptical already but it’s too loud for conference calls and it offers no resistance, so while it keeps my body moving while I’m sitting for hours, it does nothing to build strength or get my heart rate up. I needed something different.
This works great. It offers several (eight) different resistance levels and it’s quiet enough that I can use it on conference calls all day long. The resistance levels make it good for a variety of fitness levels, like someone doing rehab, or seniors, all the way up to fitness freaks who just need to keep their muscles moving while they are working. I love that it includes a mat to protect my floors and to make sure there is no sound from the vibrations of it on the floor. The app functions as a remote but it also helps you keep track of your heartrate, calories burned, etc, much like a fitness watch. You can track your progress and set goals to reach also.
It comes with two rubber wheel stops to keep your office chair from moving while you are using this because the resistance is enough to push your chair backwards. I find if I don’t put this all the way under my desk, it is harder to work it. When I have it out so that about ½ of it is not all the way under my desk and my chair is directly over that half, it works much better.
There are a few negatives: It doesn’t have a remote (although you can use the app on your phone as a remote) and it’s a little heavy, making it a pain to move around. It’s not so heavy I struggle to pick it up and move it, but it’s heavy enough I can’t pick it up while carrying my laptop into another room. Rating 4 stars.

This MODVEL elliptical machine looks very similar to the device that a friend was required to use to rehabilitate after a knee operation, so since I have something similar in my future, I decided to evaluate this MODVEL elliptical machine, when I got the opportunity. As a product design engineer, I can assure you that this is very well designed and built out of top notch materials and functions very smoothly and noiselessly. This makes it very heavy and the one poor design feature is the location of the handle, which is so far off the CG (center of gravity) that it induces considerable torque into the wrist, which could do some damage, if you are not careful lifting it. It is also so large that I don’t think it would fit under a conventional desk with a modesty panel.
I have had it for a week of so and have not yet gotten completely comfortable with it nor have I tried to download and get working the cell phone App. I like the variable resistance and will work up as I get more comfortable and confident.
I was looking at some other similar units on Amazon, many of which are substantially cheaper. I think if you are going to be just a casual user, then this MODVEL elliptical machine might be overkill, but if you are looking for something to be used in a rehab facility or gym in a retirement community, then this is the quality and build you should be looking for.
One word of caution. The unit I got was extremely well packaged and arrived in perfect condition, but unfortunately, one of the Styrofoam retainers was not properly “cooked” and I ended up with hundreds of little white beads static clinging to everything. It took longer to clean up the mess than it took to assemble the unit, which is simple enough that anyone can do it. Although I think the price, size, weight and overall quality are a bit much for the average user, I am still giving it 5 stars because it does exactly what it was designed to do very very well.

This under-desk elliptical is different from many I have seen. Most of them are designed for the elderly and have a motor that automatically turns the pedals. This one only works manually or by pushing the pedals yourself. It has 8 resistance levels, which can be challenging for me, even though I’m in my 40s. I’m really happy about that, as I wanted an under-desk exerciser that would actually provide some exercise. It feels more like a strengthening exercise rather than cardio.
The machine itself is heavy, so it’s not something you’ll want to move often. It fits under my desk just fine, and it is whisper quiet.
I’m not a fan of the app. It’s difficult to use and seems to have a significant delay. The app shown in the manual is different from the one now available for download. There is no remote for it; it has a resistance dial on the unit itself.
Overall, it’s what I was looking for in an under desk elliptical.
