A few years ago, Garmin changed their heart rate monitor (HRM) designs to start permanently attaching the electronics to the HRM strap, and having used HRMs over the past decade, I decided that their anti-consumer choice didn’t have to affect my wallet!
The problem is this- HRM straps are essentially a consumable item. Usually within 1-2 years (depending on frequency of use, and in what conditions), the elastic in the band is going to start irreversibly stretching, the electrode pickups might reduce their conductiveness and result in erroneous readings, the band will get smelly from too many uses in between washes, etc. In fact, if you have a heart rate monitor that has started creating abnormal readings (low, high) and you have already changed the battery without fixing it, it’s likely that changing the strap might fix the issue.
This HRM was a great replacement to refresh one of my existing HRM straps- it was actually just a little bit longer than the one it replaced, so it offers even more range in adjustability and the comfort level and ease of clipping (this uses the u-shaped metal clasp that inserts into the strap on the side of your chest) was similar to an OEM Garmin strap. The readings on my Garmin watch were right where I expected them to be without spikes or artificial lows, and the strap snapped/secured perfectly with an older Garmin HRM Run, a Garmin Dual, Wahoo TICKR, and Polar H10 electronics pod that I had on hand.
And the price was right in the $8-15 range that I expect for something that will hopefully last about 2 years before I throw it out and switch to the next one (I keep multiple straps and HRMs in circulation to further increase lifespan).
Compare that to spending $100-150 every two years for the latest Garmin HRM when the permanent strap wears out (when the electronics will still be functioning), and you can see that this is the answer to save your wallet, and save your electronics from the landfill due to planned obsolescence.

If you’ve ever wanted to feel like a high-tech robot while breaking a sweat, this chest strap is your new best friend! It’s adjustable, comfortable, and syncs right up with my Polar H10. Just be ready to explain why you’ve got a band across your chest when your friends wonder if you’re training for a marathon or if you’re wearing a bra. Works great—maybe too great—I’m now hyper-aware of how out of shape I am!
