I got this for arm pedaling. I did shoulder PT for a year and my favorite part was the warm up on an arm pedaling machine and I was excited to find this!
Pros
-It works! The pedals aren’t the ideal shape for holding with your hands but it’s good enough.
-The unit is lightweight and comes with a black anti-slip pad. I removed that for the pic but it keeps the unit in place.
-You can pedal forward or backward – for arms, it’s good to reverse your direction every few minutes.
-The tension is adjustable with the knob on the front, which is just a giant screw. Seems to press a brake against the inner wheel or whatever is in there, so I’m dubious about how long it would last on a higher tension. I set it in the middle to start.
-It comes with everything you need to set it up, including 2 wrenches, an allen wrench, an extra screw+washer, and batteries already in the display.
-It comes with an anti-slip pad and a strap to attach to a desk chair if you’re using it for desk cycling.
-It counts revolutions (regardless of direction of pedal), time, distance, and has a calorie counter (lol). In “Scan” mode, it cycles through each measurement. You can also press the button on the one you want to keep it on that screen, though it took some fiddling for me to get this to work.
Cons
-The instructions are inadequate. I figured out for myself how to attach the pedals, it’s not explained that you need to hold the big nut with the big wrench and the smaller nut with the smaller wrench and turn the wrenches in opposite directions. It’s also not explained that you should use the washers with each screw on the feet.
-The LCD display doesn’t reset automatically between sessions, you have to press and hold the button. Took me some time to figure this out. To fully reset, you have take the battery out by lifting the display out of the recess it is in.
-The highest resistance isn’t very resistant, can turn it without much effort.
-The visible metal parts are painted black with such a thin coating of paint, you can’t help but scratch some off during assembly.
-You will see in the pic that I took the straps off the pedals. They are a stiff plastic, which got malformed when packed, and it bangs against the pedal arm as you cycle. That got too annoying and I don’t need them anyway. Note: you have to take the pedals off to remove the straps.
-You end up with a lot of stuff and nowhere to put it. The housing seems mostly empty, as are the feet, they should have used some of that space for a storage area. You know all that stuff will disappear if not kept with the unit!

This is a well made, heavy and heavy duty exercising bike. It is not made to be truly moved around, even thought it appears portable, as it is quite heavy, unless you are young and strong. Having said that, it stays put and it comes with a mat that further assures that it will stay in place while you use it. It is easy to use! While this is intended to be used under a desk, any place is good, as long as you use a chair without wheels as a wheeled chair makes things difficult. It comes with a strap to tie it to the chair, but, I believe that can be hazardous. It is better to use a chair without wheels. It is a well built exerciser.
It is easy to put together, and it includes all necessary tools to do that. Pressure is adjustable and you have a nice LCD display, which is easy to see, to keep track of your progress.
Overall, a nicely built exerciser that will work, as long as you do your part by dedicating the time!…

I ordered this bike pedal exerciser because I use something like this at physical therapy and I wanted to be able to continue physical therapy of my shoulder at home. This model looks very comparable to the one at my physical therapy center, with the center knob to adjust tension and the mini LCD to see metrics such as time, distance, count and calories.
Assembly was straightforward – attach the two stabilizer bars at the bottom of the unit with the provided screws and allen wrench, then attach each of the pedals which requires the use of the provided two wrenches. I do not have much hand strength and yet I was able to tighten the pedals sufficiently. Unpacking and assembly took 20 minutes. The housing of the pedaler is a painted plastic, but the pedal rods and interior mechanics all appear to be strong metal, so I anticipate this pedaler should have some durability.
The one issue I have with this pedaler is that the pedal straps are misshapen and they are annoyingly hitting the silver pedal rod every time I pedal in a circle. I suppose I could try heating them up with a blow dryer and attempt to reshape them, but I shouldn’t have to do that. So they either need to be packaged in such a way as they maintain an appropriate shape or they need to be made of fabric or some other material that won’t get in the way when pedaling. Since I am using my hands to pedal and have no intention of using my feet, I chose to remove the pedal straps… this entails taking the pedals back off and unscrewing the four screws on each pedal that hold the strap in place, and then reinstalling both pedals. Had I realized this was going to be an issue, I’d have taken them off before installing the pedals the first time, so this added about 8 minutes to my assembly time.
I like the small LCD screen which allows me to track how much time I’ve spent, the distance, the count (number of times in a circle) and an estimate of calories burned. I have the option of either fixing the screen on just one of the metrics or having it scan between all the metrics, stopping briefly at one before scanning to the next. The pedal movement is smooth, and the tension knob works properly (turn clockwise to increase tension to make it more difficult to turn the pedals).
I appreciate that a nonslip mat was included, but the feet on the pedaler have some nonslip qualities already so I didn’t find it necessary to use the mat at this point. Also included is a strap and the instructions explain that it can be looped around chair legs to keep the pedaler from sliding further away from your legs as you use it – this is a nice addition to the product, but something I don’t need to use since I’m planning to hand pedal.
Overall, I’m pleased with this pedaler and I recommend it!
