I was looking for an inexpensive rowing machine and considered several models however most reviewers are not quite satisfied about quality and durability when it comes to home rowing machines. Only pro equipment seemed to have positive reviews but they are simply too big, heavy, and costly.
Then I turned my attention to machines with less “standard” designs and found the stamina bodytrac glider models had impressive reviews while still in a budget. Conveniently they are small, lightweight, and foldable so I was convinced.
Having the best comments around here I purchased the 1052.
The item was very well packaged and had no real trouble to assemble. Despite there is an assembly video available I preferred to do it by looking at the manual only (included in the package). With the help of an additional person I could have saved some time.
I’ve been using this rower for 2 months, 5-6 times a week for 15 mins sessions. Love that oversized cushioned seat.
This machine is not for athletes but you can still make short good workouts. I say “short” because of that known issue about the shock getting hot so after some point the resistance plummets. However with 90 mins of weekly rowing I am happy: not a sportsman here!. Also, I’m still a bit far from reaching level 12 (the highest resistence level offered).
The machine works perfectly except for the monitor which is a crap. Most reviewers mention that. In fact my monitor was crashing in funny ways often! (see the image) so I removed the batteries and put a phone or a watch to measure time for my workouts.
I wonder why stamina does not use better monitors, however I still think this machine is worth every cent. It is well-built, feels durable, silent, and total space saver. If they could figure out how to avoid the shock getting hot that quickly and put a decent monitor on it, this would be the best seller of rowers all time 🙂
Adivce: to prevent screeching noises appear, clean the siderail slots off dust. Keep the wheels of the seat clean as well.
PS: The 1052 offers access to 3 free workout videos. I had to reach customer support for that. They were responsive and helped me get access to those videos.

I’ve been using this rower almost everyday day for 2 weeks now and I’m giving it 5 stars despite some flaws that I’m willing to accept because of the great price.
It has great resistance and feel. The motion feels smooth and is actually pretty satisfying with the way it behaves like you are holding ores rather than just pulling a belt back and forth. People of all fitness levels can find a resistance that really challenges them.
The monitor is cheap and doesn’t provide enough useful information. I broke the little lip that secures the battery cover putting the battery in so be gentle. It’s fine but I’ll need to pry it open with a knife whenever I need to change the battery. The calories are not accurate at all. It’s telling me I’m only burning around 250 cals in an hour (2,000 strokes) when I’m probably burning more like 700 cals. The total stroke count resets after it reaches 9999 so depending how many strokes you are doing a day, it will reset every few days or so. It might be useful to monitor your strokes for the week if you do shorter sessions, but it would be nice if total strokes meant it was an odometer that let you know how many total strokes you have put on the machine. This means the only useful stats are time and strokes. If they ever upgrade the monitor strokes per minute (pace) and meters (distance) would be much more useful.
Assembly should be easy but on of the screws by the foot pedals gave me a really hard time. Either the machining was off or the powder coating was too thick around the hole causing them not to line up properly. I was finally able to get it in with a drill. Also the instruction manual needs to be updated because they have changed some things in the way they pack the unit, but these are pretty self evident. Just something to watch out for.
The seat is very uncomfortable. You probably will want to invest in a seat cushion. The one I got is thin but still helps. You might also want to invest in a floor mat. I have hardwood floors and the rower would slide across the room and rock a bit without a floor mat underneath.
2 other things I wanted to address in my review. I’ve heard some people say that after about 25 minutes because the piston gets very hot the resistance gets easier and you may need to crank it up to compensate. I have not noticed this. The piston does get hot and you don’t want to touch it, but I never felt like the resistance felt noticeably easier even when rowing for an hour. I also heard that the piston generates a strong smell and you might want to open a window or keep a fan on. I have not noticed any smell at all so maybe Stamina addressed these issues.
So despite these issues I am still giving this rower 5 stars because of the value.

The Quick List:
Pros
1. Price point is great and free super saver shipping made it even more affordable. Delivery was within 5 days of ordering.
2. Provides nice smooth range of motion and raised heart rate nicely. Twelve levels of resistance provides nice range of intensity.
3. Stores slim in an upright position – even the smallest apartment can likely accommodate storage of this unit. However, it’s best used in an area where you have a bit of room since the handles do extend out a bit.
4. If you can combine this exercise with a couple other ones at home there’s no need to ever go to a gym again. Even if the machine needed to be replaced every couple of years it’s worth it vs. cost of a gym.
Cons
1. Feet slip out of pedals, rendering unit useless. No matter how affordable this machine is one should not have to modify this on their own. Thankfully, the customer pics provide some creative in home solutions if you are handy or know a handy person with a drill.
2. Assembly wasn’t really all that difficult, but directions in manual could have been a bit clearer. Manual also doesn’t give first-time rowing machine users any kind of guidelines as to correct use.
3. Seat isn’t all that comfy, but then again very few rowing machine seats are. I found using a chair pad that has the anti-slip surface on the underside made it more comfy.
The Narrative:
I read the customer reviews for this product extensively before purchasing this. I was aware that the foot pedal slippage problem was a reality for many, if not most, of the reviewers. Thankfully, johnnyx provided great pictures of a great solution to this problem. My Dad was able to easily modify the pedals using johnnyx’s formula. One reviewer wrote that for the money people shouldn’t expect a Cadillac and I thoroughly agree with that, but Stamina MUST be aware of the pedal problem since people writing reviews 2-3 years ago were commenting on it. The machine is rendered useless if one cannot keep his/her feet on the pedals, so I do expect Cadillac-level on this.
Yeah, there are a few little hisses and scrape sounds here and there, but much of this will work itself out once the machine has been broken in. Again, for the price point one should not be expecting the refinement of a $1K machine. A good spraying of silicone spray on the seat track eliminated about 80% of the sounds I heard.
I use this in my living room, but store it in my office. I use furniture moving discs to glide it over the carpet rather than dragging it on carpet itself when moving it room to room – almost effortless to move. To prevent the threading on the knobs from wearing out too quickly I DO NOT screw them into the unit when the arms are folded up. To keep the handles from flopping down when moving it I simply use a small bungee cord to hold the handles together. Once in the area I want to use it I then screw in the knobs. Keeping the knobs off the machine when folded up is an easy reality for me, but I recognize this may not be appropriate for all users, such as those with small kids or pets – in that case keeping them on the machine itself would be best.
The handle grip area is similar to the machine I’m used to at the gym and those aren’t all that comfortable for a good 30 minute workout. I found that using my cycling gloves made the row much more comfortable. I also use this with a rowing machine DVD that is outdated and doesn’t give you the scenery you might be inclined to think you’d get. That being said, adding this to my rowing routine helps me maintain proper technique and provides interval heart rate training. A worthy addition if you’re buying this machine.
Overall, I enjoy this rowing machine. It’s certainly not at the level of rower I used to use at the gym, but for the price and the slim storing profile I’m happy enough with it for use in my home. If only Stamina would remedy the pedal problem I would have given this 5/5.

Love this machine. It was easy to set up by myself. Runs smooth. Very quite. I use it almost every day. It stands up in between and it’s easy to bring down and pull out the arms for a quick workout. Highly recommend.
